Late Nite Eats: Season 2 Episode 3 - Boston, MA

Welcome to Boston, MA

I spent some time in Boston right after college, and it was a blast to re-visit a city that has such a fond place in my memory. Boston is full of history and just as many places to eat and drink in. It even served up the best burger I've had on the show so far! Here's a breakdown of my time in Beantown.

WHERE I ATE:

Restaurants Visited for Show

MOONSHINE 152

I don't know what was better, Chef Asia Mei or her FOOD!? The place was amazing and oozed proper hospitality. The food was incredible and somehow, Chef Asia made fried chicken that was better than Haberdish and she didn't even use a pressure fryer. I'm going back to Boston just for the amazing experience I had here!

Food sampled:

  • Throwback Korean BBQ Tacos: Boneless beef shortrib, Asian pear kimchi and candied ginger aioli
  • Butterscotch Pudding: Chantilly crème and toasted amaranth crumble

LORD HOBO

Definitely a dive bar with good food by Chef Nick Gardener. The fact the place was open for 10 years is testament how they've engrained themselves into the fabric of the Cambridge community.

Food sampled:

  • Chicago Corn Dog: Batter tossed with poppy seeds, topped with Chicago relish, mustard and onions

AIDEN & HARLOW

I think I'd have to say that this burger is one of the best bites I've had on the show ever. Also had Patatas Bravas which weren't as great as the burger but an amazing take on Spanish "Fries".

Food sampled:

  • "The Secret Burger": Grated cheese tulle, arugula & salted onion salad and homemade sauce that is a cross between Caesar dressing and thousand islands on a toasted homemade bun

Restaurants Visited NOT on Show:

LITTLE DONKEY

Korean short rib, cucumber salad, Peking duck nachos, Frose. I used to live right near this restaurant. It wasn't opened when I lived in Cambridge but it's right across Phoenix Landing and I f***ing love that the neighborhood that I first experienced as a young alumnus has such great vibes and food now! Love this concept!

THE BARKING CRAB

Lobster Rolls and Fried Scallops. Funny because I used to have to save up to go eat here when I first moved to Boston! I came back and I'm not a broke ass alumnus and now it seems to taste better! This is the type of place you want to go to when you head to New England. It may not be the classiest place to go but it's a place that YOU HAVE TO VISIT if you come to Boston!

BEST OF BOSTON, MA

  • The Barking Crab is the quintessential Boston eatery. Crab cakes, lobster rolls and booze flowing all the time!
  • Check out the Lawn on D. It's basically a HUGE backyard BBQ that has live music, swings, volleyball, food, booze, and large lawns to lay and chill. One of the coolest places I've been in a while. Southie is really bringing it!
  • Cappo - it's almost like LAVO NYC comes to Boston, but a lot more of a laid back vibe. Italian restaurant that does Italian food okay, downstairs speakeasy that reminds me of a basement party. Great throwback music and sweaty basement... count me in!

CITY TIPS

  • Spend your time in Southie and the Seaport area; you won't be disappointed in the night or day!
  • Cambridge is a really cool area that definitely needs a visit while your there
  • Order lobster rolls
  • The T (underground subway transit) is deceptively fast and easy to use, save some money and substitute that for an Uber if you have the time!

IN THIS CITY I COULDN'T STOP PLAYING:

Jodi Benson - "Part of Your World" (from "The Little Mermaid")

... I don't know why. Just accept it and move on!
